Local Woman Miss Maudie had an unfourtanete night as she awoke to find her house was burning down around her. Neighbours from all around the town came out to view the spectable.People who had seen it described it as "like a pumpkin" and "like fog off a riverbank". After the event Miss Maudie had this to say "Why, I hated that old cow barn. Thought of settin' fire to it a hundred times myself, except they'd lock me up". Clean up and rebuilding of Miss Maudie's house begins soon and anybody in town is free to come over and pitch in, maybe Miss Maudie would treat us to some of her Maycomb famous baking.
Midnight Blaze Burns Down Local Home
"One-shot Finch" Kills Down Mad Dog
Local Man Atticus Finch has saved the town from a mad dog who earlier was walking freely down the main street in town. Atticus's kids Jem and Finch were there to witness Atticus grab Sheriff Heck Tate and use his rifle to shot the dog from a safe distance down the street.
Jem had this to say about her fathers shooting "an' it looked like that gun was a part of him". Atticus used to be know as the best shot in Alabama before going thirty years wthout shooting a gun, but judging from this occasion he hasn't lost any of his skill.
